As of December 26, a bipartisan mix of thirty-four Senators have sponsored a bill that could drag the U.S. into war with Iran.
Their recklessness prompted me to write Congress using DownsizeDC.org’s No Conflict with Iran campaign.
The hardwired message says…
I oppose conflict with Iran.
You may borrow from or copy this letter…
That's why you must VIGOROUSLY oppose S 1881, the "Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act."
I don't want Iran to have a nuclear weapon. But the name of the bill is a LIE.
AS YOU KNOW, U.S. intelligence agencies attest that Iran DOESN'T have a nuclear weapons program and has no plans to develop one.
Instead, the bill demands that Iran abandon its PEACEFUL nuclear energy program. Even though…
* You know full well Iran would never agree to thisEven worse, S 1881 has a "non-binding" provision that pledges U.S. support of Israel should Israel choose to attack Iran.
* They have a right to nuclear energy under the Non-proliferation Treaty
In short, this bill will PREVENT a peaceful settlement with Iran, and will likely lead to war.
And I DO NOT CONSENT to another war!
The U.S. invaded and occupied Iraq to end a weapons program it did not have.
How well did that work out?
And remember… Iran has four times the land mass and 2.5 times the population of Iraq!
War would needlessly kill countless U.S. troops and Iranian civilians. It would toss America over the fiscal cliff and the WORLD into economic collapse.
The very existence of this bill undermines U.S. diplomacy and a final nuclear agreement with Iran. Your job is to provide for the common defense. This bill UNDERMINES national security. I demand that ALL members of Congress denounce it.
I will be watching what you do..
