Had a lot to do in today's show, so I opened with the GOA Update. Gun Owners of America is having a good year, working across the country to implement and improve concealed carry laws, to pass provisions that allow gun owners to "Stand Their Ground," and to restrict government during times of Emergency Powers.
Emergency Powers were misused to take guns from law-abiding gun owners in the post-Katrina hurricane debacle. It was GOA that made the video available demonstrating how law-abiding citizens in effected areas were harassed -- how their Constitutional rights were violated. In fact, you can see the video.
GOA has passed or is close to passing rules protecting an individual's Second Amendment rights during an Emergency.
I was joined by Celeste Bishop to discuss the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). Of course, we, at DownsizeDC.org, have a campaign about this
(for more info, click the "Background" tab once you get to the campaign page).
I was also joined by Aaron Houston of the Marijuana Policy Project to discuss the big news that the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) had issued a statement saying that there was, "no sound scientific studies" demonstrating the efficacy of medical marijuana.
This is wrong, and is actually contradicted by... a government study!
But why are these things happening? We closed discussing regulatory capture.
In the NAIS case the capture comes from the major agribusiness industry that stands to benefit. In the medical marijuana case, science is tossed aside for political considerations.
