Final numbers for July

Quote of the Day: “Free cheese is only found in mousetraps.” — Russian proverb (HT: Professor Mark Perry of the Carpe Diem blog)

Subject: Final numbers for July

As usual on the first work day of a new month, we report our final results from the previous month . . .

* The Downsize DC Army ended July with 27,615 members, an increase of 1,510 net new members/subscribers
* We’ve now recruited 3,266 net new members for far this year
* We sent 50,802 letters to Congress, an increase of 7,792 over what we did in June
* 1,687 new people registered to use our Educate the Powerful System (sm), an increase of 693 over last month

Our sister organization, the Downsize DC Foundation, also helped fund a brief to the Supreme Court arguing that the campaign finance laws violate your individual right to the freedom of the press. The brief has now been completed and filed with the court. We’ll be sharing it with you soon.

We proposed it, you funded it, and we did it. Thank you! Speaking of which, we also made our fundraising marks for July . . .

* 20 DC Downsizers started new monthly pledges — 1 more than in June
* 32 DC Downsizers made one-time donations — 6 more than last month

Thank you to everyone for making these great results possible. If we always do more than we did before, we’re certain to reach our goal. Downsize DC! Now let’s get started on August . . .

The public opinions polls have turned against the big health care bill being considered in Congress. But the politicians only point to the part of the polls showing that a majority still want health care reform. The politicians are cherry-picking the evidence.

Please use’s health care campaign to send another letter to Congress opposing the health care bill.

Use your personal comments to point out that even though a majority of Americans want health care reform, it’s very clear from the polls that they don’t want the changes Congress is proposing. Tell them to give us consumer choice instead, by expanding health savings accounts and allowing consumers and employers to buy health insurance regulated by the state of their choice.
