Do your representatives know what Rand Paul knows?
GREAT NEWS!
Senator Rand Paul has, once again, re-introduced three Downsize DC bills designed to make the government work for you.
His office notified me that these are the first bills he’s introducing in this session of Congress!
They went on to say they look forward to working with YOU.
Our bills are short and simple, but pack a punch…
The Read the Bills Act (RTBA) requires Congress to read bills (and allows YOU to read them!) before they’re finally voted on (S. 55).
The One Subject at a Time Act (OSTA) prevents unpopular measures from being clustered with unrelated, must-pass legislation into one massive bill (S. 59).
The Write the Laws Act (WTLA) guarantees that every tax you’re ordered to pay, and every rule you have to obey, must be passed by Congress and cannot be imposed on you by unelected bureaucrats (S. 60).
As a bonus, Sen. Paul introduced a rule for the Senate (S.Res.18) that forces a waiting period between introducing a measure and debating it. The longer the bill, the longer the wait. For instance, if a thousand-page bill is introduced, the Senate must wait 50 days before considering it. This resolution is further reinforcement of the principle that Congress must be given sufficient time to read the bills.
The Senator’s re-introduction of these measures demonstrates that Rand Paul knows what you and I know…
Representative government means more than just elections
In theory, the Constitution lays down a form of representative government. But Sen. Paul understands that we don’t have it in practice. Your “representatives” don’t represent you, and even when they have the best of intentions, they can’t represent you effectively…
- Necessary legislation, such as a department spending re-authorization bill, is often pushed to last-minute deadlines and beyond.
- The bills are negotiated in the dark by Congressional leaders. They will delete previously, openly negotiated items and secretly add new ones.
- When members are finally given access to the bill, they have almost no time to read any of it before it comes to a vote.
After the bill is passed, we find lobbyist fingerprints all over it.
You may become poorer and less free due to hidden provisions in the bill. You might feel that you weren’t un-represented.
And you will be right!
You can teach your Representative and Senators, even make them understand…

IMPORTANT NOTE: Congress hasn’t updated its digital roster, so neither have we. When you receive your confirmation email, worry not about the names listed. If you’re in the right state and district, that’s what matters. The incumbent names will be updated in due time.
